I am Susan Harrington, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-S) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT-S) who passionately believes every family can feel health and happiness when the problem is addressed as a team.
Licensed in 2002, I provide therapy on a full-time basis working with couples and non-traditional significant adult relationships. My experience focuses on mending relationships and helping people improve communication, especially through couple and relationship therapy.
With over 20 years of licensed experience, I am skilled as a therapist and offer two different therapy service options. Please consider each option with your partner(s).
I also provide individual therapy for a variety of concerns, such as grief/loss, esteem, and gender identity, as well as life-altering events resulting in emotional distress. My fees are assessed hourly. I am an in-network provider with Humana-Military/TriCare. I can provide the necessary documentation in support of all out-of-network insurance benefit reimbursements.

✪ Gottman Method Couple Therapy
I utilize the Gottman Method for Couple Therapy, a tried-and-true approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough 4-6 hours of assessment of you and your significant partner(s)’ relationship that integrates 30+ years of research-based interventions. The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy, as well as create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.
Incorporating the Gottman Method, I guide your learning and use of a set of specific tools determined by your assessment results that will deepen the friendship and intimacy in your relationship. You will be given methods to manage “resolvable problems” and dialogue about “gridlocked” (or perpetual) issues to help you productively manage your conflicts.
Each appointment is a 1 ½-hour block of time at a rate of $150.00 per session.
My initial 20 years as a family therapist have been built on providing therapy services with individuals, couples, families, and non-traditional adult relationships. I blend Systems Theory, Emotional Focused Couple Therapy, and Contextual Family Therapy with an interactive stance through a therapeutic experience that has been shown to build effective relational skills and help partners with healing their relationship. By the second appointment, we will complete the relaxed assessment, which is designed to assist me in learning your general perspectives and family histories and determine your general needs and treatment goals.
My Relationship Therapy presumptions include (a) joining happens through ethically relating with one another; (b) taking action from a place of love and gratitude for yourself and for the other person(s) to promote solutions; (c) experiencing each person as one and as a part of many others; (d) realizing that no one can make you feel anything; (e) learning that each person is at least 1% responsible for his/her/their thoughts and actions; (f) healing happens through the emotional connecting within and between people; (g) changing is an ongoing journey and it happens naturally based on each person’s readiness for change; and (h) coming to know how balance and harmony are flexible, fluid, systemic entities, and growth happens through that fluidity. This therapy experience encourages hopes of improving your life with the intention of helping you learn how to live a healthier lifestyle together.
Each appointment is a 1.0-hour block of time at a rate of $100.00 per session.
I am a dually approved clinical supervisor since 2005 by the State of Louisiana and by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy for those students who have completed the academic requirements for and are interested in attaining licensure as an LPC and/or an LMFT.
As a clinical supervisor, I support pre-licensed therapists in building their clinical skills that focus on implementing systems theory with individuals, relationships, and families. My professional experience includes working with the person who has struggled with substance-related concerns, grief events, and/or experienced sexual abuse, specifically from a systemic/relational perspective.
Individual supervision is scheduled in 1.0-hour appointments for $60.00 per meeting. Group supervision is provided once a month as well.
Contact me if you are interested in participating in Louisiana Board and/or AAMFT-approved supervision for your clinical training experience (AAMFT supervision requirements). I meet the qualifications as an AAMFT Supervisor Mentor for anyone with LMFT status looking to grow as an AAMFT-AS.
